Here Are Some Tips For Pressure Cleaning Your Home’s Roof Posted on November 1, 2020 by Patricia Today we want to discuss a few tips if you are thinking about pressure cleaning the roof of your home, now this will differ depending on the type of roof you have, so let’s get started. Tile Roofs All roofs are not the same, especially when it comes to pressure cleaning a tile roof. We will discuss some of the most common types of tile roof and give you tips on how to clean each type such as: Terra Cotta Barrel Tile This type of roof is very fragile, so you have to take extra care when walking on this particular type of tile, normally the more lightweight the person is the better it is in this case. Rotary cleaners are not recommended for this type of roof cleaning because the top or crest of the tile is a lot higher than the valley or trough of the roof. It is better to manually pressure clean this type of surface with a spray wand. Concrete Flat Tile Since concrete is a very durable material, you should use the rotary surface cleaner to clean this type of roof, however, for best results the height of the tile will need to be manually pressure washed row by row with a spray wand. S-Type Tile Also known as modified S-Type is usually made of concrete, which is stronger and a lot easier to clean than the other 2 types of roofs we discussed above. For a job well done, you will need to also clean the ridge tiles as well as the tiles that run along the edge of the roof. Shingle Roofs Now you may be asking yourself if shingle roofs can be pressure cleaned? Absolutely! Shingle roofs are pressure washed either by using a technique known as water brooming or wanding, which are a special type of low pressure cleaning technique that was developed especially for types of materials such as roof shingle. It is important that you not spray against the roof shingle, but instead spray with the lay. Avoid using bleach or chlorine on roof shingle as these chemicals can cause the nails that hold the shingle in place to rust and swell, which could eventually cause your roof to leak.
