Important Notice
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Capital Construction (MTACC) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) are currently constructing a project to bring new LIRR passenger service directly into Grand Central Terminal (GCT), augmenting the service already provided to Penn Station. This project, which is known as the East Side Access (ESA) Project, will route the LIRR through new track connections in Queens to new tunnels under Sunnyside Yard and into the existing 63rd Street Tunnel under the East River , which has space for two tracks reserved for ESA. In Manhattan, the tunnel route will extend from the existing 63rd Street Tunnel terminus at 2nd Avenue and East 63rd Street, curve south under Park Avenue at 61st Street, pass below the 60th Street tunnels of the N and R subway, stay deep below the Metro-North tunnels as they approach GCT, enter a new terminal under GCT, and extend along Park Avenue to approximately 37th Street. Additional information on the project is available at www.mta.info/capconstr/esas/index.html.
